What kratom is
Kratom is the leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, a tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia. Laborers there have traditionally chewed or brewed the leaf. Its primary alkaloids are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Kratom is typically taken as a brewed leaf tea or powdered leaf. Reported effects are strongly dose-dependent and vary between individuals more than most botanicals.

- Never stack with alcohol or sedatives.

- Kratom can be habit-forming. Regular use may lead to dependence and withdrawal.
- Adverse effects can include nausea, dizziness, constipation, and elevated heart rate.
- Serious interactions are possible with alcohol, opioids, sedatives, and many prescription medications.
- Concentrated or adulterated kratom products carry substantially higher risk than plain leaf.
- Do not use if pregnant, nursing, under 21, or with a history of substance use disorder.
